My book, A Town and A Valley: Growing Up in Tarrytown and the Hudson Valley, was purchased last year by the Warner Library in Tarrytown and by the Tarrytown Historical Society. I've gotten some nice feedback on the book from different people, many of whom grew up with me in Tarrytown. One of my classmates from grammar school wrote to tell me that his mother is enjoying the book; she and my mother used to chat when they ran into each other in town. I know my parents and my brother would be proud of me for having written this book. It was a labor of love and it took me more than a decade to finish writing it. I'm happy with the finished product.

It's been six months since I stopped working in order to focus more on my writing, among other activities. So far that seems to be working out well. I just submitted a poetry collection (in Norwegian) to a publisher here in Oslo and am hoping for a positive response. If they don't want to publish it, I'll self-publish (Norwegian e-book) and then I'll publish the English translation on Amazon. This poetry collection is entitled Movements Through the Landscape. I've also finished writing my garden book as well as my book about growing up in Tarrytown NY. I started the latter well over ten years ago, but with working full-time and other obligations, it's taken a while to finish it. Now I need to find a publisher for this book too. I'm thinking about self-publishing my garden book. I collaborate with a very talented graphic designer, Paloma Ayala, and she will be doing the graphic design for the garden book.

I'm proud of our article that was just published in Anticancer Research. The article has been placed in 'Issue Highlights' as well (Anticancer Research (iiarjournals.org). It's a nice way to round off my career in academic science. My co-authors and I worked hard on this article; we started the work in 2017 and I finished most of the data analysis and writing of the article in February 2021. One of the co-authors (my student Sean Pham) did his Masters degree studying one of the DNA repair proteins (PARP1); he successfully defended his work in 2018. So all in all--a productive last four years.
I also want to thank the research foundation at Oslo University Hospital for their generous support of my research during the past ten years. I don't know what I would have done without them, because most small academic scientists like myself, who enjoy working independently and are not part of huge centers of excellence, don't get funding anymore from the large granting organizations and institutions like the Norwegian Cancer Society and the Norwegian Research Council.
